♥ What are your hours?
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: 12:30am-5pm
Tuesday: 3pm-8pm


♥ Can I just walk in anytime or do I need an appointment?
We accept walk-in clients if we have time after our scheduled appointments, but you may be asked to schedule an appointment for another time. This is why we highly recommend that you call to make an appointment so that we can make sure that we have time to see you. It will also make your wait shorter.


♥ What do I need to bring to my appointment?
We ask that you bring a photo ID of some kind. Other than that, we request that you be on time to your appointment. And if you can’t make your appointment, please give us a call to reschedule or cancel so that we can open up that spot for others that need to be seen.


♥ What if my friend/partner/daughter doesn't speak English very well? Can I come with her to help translate?
Yes. We help mothers from all over the world! The majority of our volunteers speak English, so having a translator is very helpful. If you do not have a friend or family member that can translate for you, we will still try to help you the best that we can. However, if you speak Spanish, we do have a Spanish speaking volunteer on Thursdays and Fridays that you can request for your appointment.


♥ Do I have to have insurance or bring any kind of payment?
No. All of our services are completely free.


♥ I am underage. Does a parent have to come with me for my appointment?
No. Even though you are a minor, you have the right to confidential help (except in cases where mandatory reporting applies). We can’t provide your records to anyone without written authorization from you. Schedule a confidential appointment today.


♥ Can I bring a friend?
Absolutely! You can bring a friend, boyfriend, parent, relative, or mentor. We understand that you need support during this process. However, we begin all of our sessions one-on-one, so that you have a safe place to speak freely about your feelings and your situation. Anyone you bring with you can be brought in later in the session.


♥ Are all the services confidential?
Yes. All of our services are free, confidential, and private. You have the right to confidential help (except in cases where mandatory reporting applies). We can’t provide your records to anyone without written authorization from you.


♥ How do I know if I'm pregnant?
Check out our pregnancy page for a list of pregnancy symptoms and information on how we can help you know for sure if you are pregnant and if the pregnancy is viable.


♥ I already bought a home pregnancy test. Why do I need to come in to be tested?
The pregnancy tests offered by our center are lab-quality, highly-sensitive urine tests with instant results. All tests are done in a private setting, and your results will be shown during your appointment. While our pregnancy tests are accurate, we recommend that results be verified with a free ultrasound to check the viability of the pregnancy.


♥ I had sex last night, and I thnk to condom broke. Can I come in for a pregnancy test today?
The hormones in your body that result in a positive pregnancy test can’t be detected the day after. But you may call and schedule an appointment for a test a week or two out.


♥ I think I'm pregnant, but I'm on the pill. What should I do?
You will need to take a lab-quality pregnancy test, and if it is positive you will want to verify the viability of the pregnancy with an ultrasound.


♥ Can I get the morning after pill from Family Life Services?
Family Life Services does not offer or refer for the morning after pill (Plan B) or the abortion pill (RU486).


♥ Do you perform abortions?
We do not perform or refer for abortions at Family Life Services; however, we do have accurate up-to-date information about abortion methods and potential risks. Because we don’t charge for our services and won’t profit from a woman’s decision, we feel that we are in a unique position to educate women on this topic. We know that you want to make an informed decision, and we would love to discuss abortion and all of your options with you.


♥ What do you mean I "may not need an abortion"? How do you know?
Many women can avoid having to decide what to do with their unplanned pregnancy because more than 1 in 5 of all pregnancies ends naturally in miscarriage. The best way to see if your pregnancy will miscarry is by ultrasound. We offer free ultrasounds at our center to verify the viability of your pregnancy.


♥ I've already had an abortion, what can Family Life Services do for me?
You may be wondering, “Why do I need help after I’ve already had an abortion?” Many women, and even men, have come to Family Life Services for post-abortion recovery and healing. They realize they can’t deal with all of the unexpected consequences on their own. We are here for you, no matter what choices you’ve made.


♥ What does "Post-Abortion Recovery" really mean?
The process for recovering from an abortion is different for everyone. We offer support for individuals or groups dealing with the strong emotions that often surface after terminating a pregnancy, either recently or many years ago. Check out our post-abortion recovery page, and let us know if you would like to receive help in a group setting or one-on-one.


♥ How is Family Life Services different from other clinics?
We are different in many ways, including the fact that our services are completely free. We also support women beyond pregnancy by offering pregnancy educational programs, relationship advice, material goods monthly up to size 6T, as well as counseling and support for individuals who have been hurt by an abortion decision or miscarriage. ♥ Is Family Life Servies an OB/GYN doctor's office?
No. We are a medical facility that offers pregnancy tests and limited ultrasounds. However, we can refer you to good OB/GYNs in the area and government programs to help defray the cost of medical care.


♥ I already had my baby. How can Family Life Services help me?
We have many programs for mothers that have already had their babies. We support moms beyond pregnancy by offering educational programs, relationship advice, and material goods monthly up to size 6T. Make an appointment to let us know what you need, and we will do our best to help you!


♥ How do I know if I've been exposed to an STD?
If you’ve been sexually intimate orally, anally, or vaginally, you may have put yourself at risk for an STD. It’s really that simple. Since there are many types of STDs, it is important that you be tested regularly. Family Life Services does not currently provide STD testing, but we would be happy to discuss the possible side effects with you and refer you to a clinic that offers that service.


♥ Can a condom protect me from an STD?
Condoms can only reduce the chance of infection with STDs like Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. Herpes and HPV are found on the external genitalia, a place that condoms don’t cover. The only guaranteed protection from STDs is abstinence. If you are sexually active, we recommend that you get tested regularly for STDs.


♥ How many women does Family Life Services help each year?
Last year (2015), we had close to 1,200 client visits for a variety of services.


♥ How long has Family Life Services been around?
Family Life Services has been aiding mothers and families in Washtenaw County since 1985.
